I've finally returned. My apologies for the lack of updates-I've been hitting the pavement hard since I left SF to head to LV for Project and Capsule, after which I flew out to NY for a slew of showroom appointments, D&A, and Coterie. But I'm back to regale you of business and pleasure, both of which are firmly afixed to the ethos of Milkmade. Firstly, the business: I'm excited to announce that Milkmade has picked up a number of amazing new collections for A/W '09! Let's just leave it at that, for now.
And now to the pleasure...I stayed at The Jane--an amalgamation of Steven King's "The Shining" and a Wes Anderson film, set in the Meatpacking. Just creepy enough to be charming, it was exactly what I needed--a place to sleep and shower.
There are 3 things that, no matter how many times I visit New York, keep me coming back to the City: 1) family; 2) friends; and 3) food. Now, #'s 1 &2 are personal, but #3 we can talk about. Here are the highlights:
>>Mario Batali's Otto Enoteca (ridiculously extensive wine list + Bruschetta of The Day that eats like a steak)
>>Paul's (quite possibly the best cheeseburger in the US)
>>David Chang's Momofuku Ssam Bar -- This is what I had for my last dinner in the City: 1 bottle of The Black Chook + cracked empress jonah crab claws w/ harissa mayo + Maine sweet shrimp + steamed pork belly buns + honeycrisp apple kimchi + grilled branzini + Bev Eggleston's pork shoulder steak w/ figs, hazelnuts & cumin yogurt. Then we went next door to Momofuku Milk Bar and finished the perfect meal off with a generous slice of "Crack Pie".
I spent my one full free afternoon in Brooklyn just walking, only stopping to drink coffee and to eat F'n'C at Lodge. Sorry, Peter Luger.
