Three of California's premiere listening rooms, McCabe's Guitar Shop in Los Angeles, Lestat's in San Diego and Zoey's Cafe in Ventura, play host this April to "An Evening with Joey Ryan and Kenneth Pattengale."

Pattengale and Ryan draw on their own catalogues to bring forth an ever-dynamic but single-minded evening of storytelling through song. Throughout the two hours of performance (hedged by a brief intermission) the pair rely upon only four elements -two guitars and two voices- and the balance between them to create an expansive musical experience befitting the rich history and hallowed walls of the listening rooms to which they play. The concert's unique structure -favoring the song itself to its writer- finds the audience unaware of which performer can claim authorship over which song until the first note is sung. Tastefully nuanced with rich vocal harmony and guitar accompaniment the evening provides a rare opportunity to witness two of Los Angeles' premiere performing songwriters cast in a different light: presenting and interpreting each other's work in an intensely personal fashion that yields unique arrangements and reveals a new-found depth in the work itself.
