I don't think I'm alone when I say that the near $5/gallon gasoline nightmare of 2008 still haunts my dreams, with my pocketbook quivering in occasional night sweats. Since then, though, I've opened my eyes to the possiblity that the "U" in my SUV has largely outlived its relevance. But is there really any hope for those of us carbon footprint converts that readily repent for our Sinfully Unsustainable Vehicles but nevertheless value utility, design, and performance? Mark your calendars, for the day of deliverance soon comes: In 2011, Tesla will release the much anticipated four-door followup to its highly acclaimed Roadster, the Tesla Model S.
The Model S, like the Tesla Roadster, is a pure electric vehicle and is twice as efficient as a hybrid: from a 45min. charge that costs roughly $4, the Model S covers a 300 mile range and boasts a 0-60mph time of 5.6 seconds! It also features seating for 7, a 2nd trunk under the hood, and even a 17in. infotainment touchscreen. I wonder if Tesla accepts trade-ins.
