cleveland-arts-3This morning, I stopped by Cleveland Art's 7,000 square foot showroom, across from the Barker Block in Downtown, to pick up a couple pieces for the shop. Raan (Apolis) recommended the place to me the other week and I was immediately blown away by the artistry in the myriad pieces as well as the thoughtful appointment of the vast interior space. While most other "antiques" purveyors merely clean up found objects, the guys at Cleveland Art breath new life into industrial & architectural salvage creating entirely new and different design. If you go there, look for Jeff and tell him Brian (Milkmade) sent you.

Cleveland Art was founded in 1994 by Jason Wein. While working at the family salvage yard as a young man he saw the potential of industrial machinery and surplus being repurposed and recycled as functional design for the home, office and retail setting. For well over a decade now, Cleveland Art has been at the forefront of vintage and recycled industrial design.

In keeping with this tradition, Cleveland Art also uses steel, wood, and glass to manufacture selected lines of furniture, lighting, and retail display for clients throughout the United States and abroad. These clients include architects, interior designers, hotels, restaurants and retail stores. The simple design of each piece coexists seamlessly with modern and traditional décor.

bowoo-1When a group of musicians get together to pool their collective talents, what usually results is music and/or music-related activities (read: drinking, carousing, etc.). But when a few Brooklyn-based guitarists got together, an existential conversation about the absence of high quality, stylish guitar gig bags arose, and out of that heady tete-a-tete, Bowoo was born.

bowoo-5Available in two sizes--standard & jumbo, the bags are produced in limited runs of 20-25 per size, assuring that each Bowoo bag is of the utmost quality and construction. Made from heavy-duty canvas and featuring sumptuous leather accents (e.g. handle & shoulder pad) & a quilted lining, Bowoo just upgraded your axe from Economy to First Class.

HARVEY FAIRCLOTH

harvey-fairclothThe cat is out of the bag: Milkmade is proud to announce that we will be carrying the debut collection of HARVEY FAIRCLOTH, next Fall. I know, it's only April but you were bound to find out sooner or later. I came across them at D&A in New York last February and was immediately taken in by the line's impeccable art direction and timeless overall aesthetic. If the devil is in the detail, well then HARVEY FAIRCLOTH is undeniably diabolical.

Created by friends Katie Hatch--a longtime style editor at Martha Stewart, Abby Clawson Low--a former Senior Art Director at Kate Spade, & Mara Papa--an erstwhile exceutive assistant to a hedge fund founder who once "arranged to have an elephant shipped from Calcutta to California in 24 hours", the debut collection for Autumn 2009 draws its inspiration from "Alexey Brodovitch, Native American beading, The Seven Year Itch, the understated chic of Claire McCardell, the strange unexpected glamour of men wearing aprons, and the utilitarian whimsy of tin can toys. And above all, everything they've always loved to wear."

And the question you're all wondering: Exactly who is HARVEY FAIRCLOTH? Click here to find out.
